The Viper was the primary space superiority fighter of the Twelve Colonies of Man. Its reliability and adaptive nature was quite helpful on many occasions, and the ship was quite durable when it came to complicated flight maneuvers and was even able to withstand light turbolaser fire from time to time. At least two variants are known to have existed during the Thousand Yahren War, with the older 6th millennium version being retired from service everywhere but Proteus. The Viper was very much a symbol of pride for the colonies, being only awarded to the most skilled pilots. They were stationed on every Battlestar during the Thousand Yahren War.[1]
