The Colony‏‎ was a massive space station built by the Cylons around the ship of the Final Five following the 1st Cylon War, and represented their de facto homeworld.

History[]

When the First Cylon War ended with the Cimtar Peace Accords, the Cylon retreated from the Colonies to the Colony, where they with the help from the Final Five build the 8 Humanoid Cylon models. During the Fall of the Twelve Colonies, The Colony was moved close to the Cyrannus Star System, in order for the Cylon invasion fleet to jump directly to the Colonies[2][3]. After the outbreak of the Cylon Civil War, the Colony fell into the hand of Cylon Loyalists, led by Number Ones, and is moved to the stable orbit of a naked singularity[4].

When Number 8, Sharon Valerii kidnaped Hera, she took her to the Colony to be dissected to unlock the mystery of Cylon reproduction. To rescue Hera, Galactica mounted a bold offensive against the Colony, ramming it and sending boarding parties. Under heavy fire from both Modern Centurions and Centurions Model 0005, the boarding parties secured Hera and returned her to Galactica. In the ensuing chaos, the damaged Raptor inadvertently launched its complement of 16 nuclear warheads which impacted the Colony, disabling its sublight drives and pushing it deeper into the accretion disc of the singularity. After Galactica jumped away, the Colony was presumably crushed by the immense gravitation forces of the black hole[5].

Design[]

Build around the sub-luminal vessel that was used by the Final Five Cylons, Samuel Anders, Tory Foster, Ellen Tigh, Saul Tigh, and Galen Tyrol. The Colony was an immense space station which served as the mobile Cylon homeworld. The colony appears to operate much like the Modern Basestars, though it is unknown whether or not the Colony itself is made of the same material as basestars, it would seem likely, however, given the Cylons’ access to Final Five technology. The Colony featured large arm-like structures as well as a powerful FTL drive system which enabled it to maintain a stable orbit in even the most extreme environments.

Armament[]

The Colony was armed with multiple single-barrel and quad-barrel kinetic energy weapons (KEW). It is unknown if the Colony possessed any kind of missile launchers, unlike the Cylon basestars, as the battle with Galactica was at "point-blank range".

Complement[]

Unlike the Modern Cylon Basestar, the Colony fielded all variations of Cylon vehicles, bar the original Type 1 Raiders designed during the First Cylon War. It is unknown why Athena suggested that all previous outdated Cylon crafts were scrapped when they in fact still defended the Colony, though this is never seen on-screen.

Behind the scenes[]

  • Writers had orginally idea for a Cylon Homeworld called "Cylonia", but the idea was later scrapped in favor of the Colony
