The Raider Type II was the first of the series of Raider space-superiority fighters to be used by the Cylon Fleet, who used them against the Colonial Fleet during the later half of the First Cylon War.[2][3]

First Encounter[]
During the Battle of Djerba, a Type II basestar deployed over 140 Type II raiders against Battlestar Osiris and its complement of about 20 Mark III Vipers. Following heavy damage to the battlestar, Commander Ozar decided to manually activate its nuclear warhead compliment, destroying both ships and their fighter complement,[3]
The End[]
The fighter served as the backbone of the Cylon Navy until the end of the war. During Operation Raptor Talon, William Adama singlehandedly destroyed five enemy fighters before being downed on an unnamed Cylon-occupied planet.
The Guardians[]
During the first month of Lee Adama's Pegasus command, a fleet of war-era Raiders mounted an attack on the ship. With a Raider chasing Kara Thrace onto the port-upper deck. "Why would the Cylons resurrect a machine that by their standards is hopelessly obsolete?" asked President Roslin. The answer came from prisoner Sharon Valerii. "Maybe they didn't resurrect it. Maybe they were out here all along. There are references in our databases of a force of Centurions called Guardians. Early models, like this, that somehow escaped being scrapped." The Guardians, she sad, guarded a hybrid, which represented the first step in the Cylon's evolution from machines to living beings. Later, mounting an offensive against The Guardians, all remaining Type 2 raiders were lured from their Type 3 Basestar and presumably destroyed during the Battle of Guardian Basestar.
Design[]
Raiders were discoid-shaped fighters of the Cylon fleet. Fast, agile, and a challenge for even the best Colonial Viper pilots. Like Colonial ships, the Raiders were powered with Tylium fuel and were designed for space and atmospheric flight. The craft had two sublight engines on the upper side of the disc on either side of the cockpit. The down-turned wings extended from the rear of the Raider's shallow-domed central body, each curving around like a crab claw to the ship's front.
Armament[]
Unlike previous Cylon raiders or Colonial ships, the Type II raider featured pair of Laser cannons. Said cannons were mounted on triple gantries in the slots between, barrels level with the ship's wide fascia.[1][4]
