Proteus is a planet located in a galaxy close to the one Kobol and the Twelve Colonies of Man were located in.
History[]
Proteus was established as a penal colony for criminals from Aries some time early in the 6th Millennium. It was defended by a small military force of Vipers, and during the Twelve Colonies' war with the Cylons produced munitions. Early in the war, communications was inexplicably lost and Aries ceased cargo transport to and from Proteus. Proteus' guards nonetheless continued running the prison, and it became generational with the children of the guards and prisoners assuming their parents' place. When the prison exhausted its supply of raw materials for munitions, it switched to producing ambrosia and continued to do so for seven hundred years. Over the yahren, the prison deteriorated and its electric locks ceased to function; prison escape were rare, however due to the patriotism of the inmates and their belief their produce was still being picked up. A man known only as "the silent one" was captured by Proteus' Vipers when his damaged ship was detected, and sent to the prison; as he had detailed knowledge of Earth he may not have been affiliated with the penal colony at all and simply been enslaved. Eventually, the people of Procyon made contact with Colonial Warriors from the Battlestar Galactica, and a revolution took place when the prisoners discovered the pointlessness of their labours. Procyon was subsequently attacked by a Cylon patrol force and the prison and docks were destroyed. They may have joined the Fleet and abandoned the star system altogether.[1]
