Battlestar Galactica 2004 Continuity
(Battlestar Galactica 2004, Caprica and Blood & Chrome)

Picon, known as "The Ocean Colony" is a planet in the Cyrannus star system, and one of the Twelve Colonies of Kobol, orbiting Helios Alpha. It is named after the Pisces tribe who resided on Kobol, though its citizens may not have been affiliated with that tribe. The planet itself is 75% ocean, but unlike Aquaria, its climate is temperate and its seas support an abundance of aquatic life.

History[]

Following the re-development of space technology by the peoples on Gemenon, the planets Caprica, Picon, and Virgon were among the earliest established colonies, each under the administrative control of the Virgonese.[2] Because of this mutual evolution all three were culturally similar and spoke the same language.[3] Following its 18th-Century (200 BCH) decline, Picon gained independence from Virgon though maintained close ties.

Geography[]

Three-quarters of Picon's surface is water, which earned it the name "The Ocean Colony" and is abundant with aquatic life. The average temperature on Picon is lower than that of Caprica.[4]

Culture[]

In the 20th century, Picon was known for its socially-progressive attitudes towards health care and affordable housing. Its crime rate was relatively low and boasted an affluent and educated population. Following the Cylon War, the Colonial Fleet made its base in Perkinson, with Picons representing a large representation of administrative staff.

Notes[]

  • In the star system map created for Season 1, Picon; Scorpia; Leonis, and Aerelon are moons of a gas giant Zeus.
