2004 Continuity (Battlestar Galactica 2004, Caprica, Blood & Chrome)

The New Caprica Police (NCP) was a police service founded by the Gaius Baltar administration for policing New Caprica during the Cylon occupation. At its height it was believed to consist of around 200 members.[1]

History[]

During the four month long occupation, President Baltar, under Cylon influence, established a police force to calm the population, who were concerned about Cylon Centurions patrolling New Caprica City.[2] The police worked as little more than death squads, dragging suspected members of the New Caprica resistance out of their tents and mass-executing them outside of the city. The resistance responded by having Tucker Clellan join the police and act as a suicide-bomber at a graduation ceremony for new police officers.[1]

Following the graduation attack, the police were ordered to arrest some 200 suspected members and associates of the resistance, including former president Laura Roslin and Vice President Tom Zarek. Facing a further attack by the resistance, the police were ordered to transport the prisoners for execution by a Centurion death-squad.[3] Though this was carried out, the police and Centurions were killed by a late-arriving resistance squad.[4]

Following the demise of New Caprica, members of the police force became targets of reprisals. James Lyman and twelve other suspected members and other collaborators were abducted by The Circle and executed under authorisation of Vice President Zarek. Later discovering the executions, the restored President Roslin made a blanked pardon to prevent its continuation.[5]
