Captain George "Catman" Birch was Galactica's Viper pilot, and for a short time its CAG. He was promoted to the role after Captain Lee Adama defects with over 1/3 of the fleet which followed President Roslin back to Kobol. Unlike Adama, who selected him for his loyalty, Saul Tigh believed Birch to be too young and inexperienced for the position. Tigh is ultimately proven right after series of failures, including botched live-fire exercise and fueling operation where refinery Daru Mozu was damaged in collision with the Striker.[1]
