2004 Continuity

The Gemenon Liner 1701-type civilian cruiser was a class of passenger liner operated by several airlines throughout the Cyrannus Star System, in the interwar period. Described as "fish-shaped", these relatively common spaceships would usually carry anywhere from 450 to 1350 passengers. While described as having maximum carrying capacity of around 1000,

History[]

The liner has been a staple of inter-colony transport for over 50 years, and it has already been in service in 58 BCH.[4] A number of spacelines operate this vessel in the following years in the interwar period, with at least 5 ships surviving the initial Cylon attack in 0 ACH.

Behind the Scenes[]

  • 3D model for Liner 1701-type was created by Fabio Passaro for Battlestar Galactica 2004 Miniseries.
  • Fabio Passaro noted "The first ship that got the cleanup and extra versions was the Interplanetary Space Liner. Three versions of this ship needed to be done as there were three distinct repeating liveries on the show - the SAG (Sagittarian Spaceways), the PANGAL (Pan Galactic) and the standard Generic Liner. Each of these were created afresh, derived from one Generic optimised hero mesh. A medium detail version was then made and finally a low polygon model was created. Low polygon models often involve the most work ironically, as they have to be UV mapped everywhere and adorned with realistic textures to mimic their fully detailed siblings. - They end up like a well detailed Game model when completed. The texturing was also tweaked and adjusted as per production suggestions. The Producers also wanted weathered dirty versions of each variant - so below is a look at the different versions and also the resultant dirty up jobs undertaken also. Altogether - with other versions like Black with just luminous attributes for specific render passes - a total of 18 meshes were created along with import scene files derived from a single original mesh."

  • A discrepancy exists between the stated carrying capacity of 1000 and the actual capacity stated in the show. This could however be explained by different airlines choosing different class layouts. The operator of the Olympic Carrier presumably chose more Economy Class seats, explaining the 1350-person capacity, the operator of Pyxis presumably chose a more First Class-oriented layout, explaining the only 462 persons on board.
  • Liner 1701-type is also sometimes known as "Intersun passenger cruiser" in the community, as apparently named in now defunct SciFi.com website. The Wiki Team was however unable to verify this claim.
