Battlestar Galactica 2004, Caprica and Blood & Chrome
The Exodus from New Caprica was a simultaneous ground, air and space-based engagement between the Colonial Fleet and New Caprica Resistance against the Cylon occupation force and the collaborationist Colonial government and its New Caprica Police.
Background[]
- For the main article, see: Occupation of New Caprica
Almost a year after the Fall of the Twelve Colonies, a refugee convoy led by Colonial Fleet battlestars Galactica and Pegasus settled on New Caprica following a proposed cessation of hostilities from the Cylons. A year later, the colony was discovered by a Cylon fleet who brought down a large occupation force. Though nominally there to develop the infrastructure, several Humanoid Cylon models pushed President Gaius Baltar into turning the colony into a police state with Jump Keys confiscated from starships to prevent escape. Playing into the wider civilian population's reluctance to fight back, the Centurion occupation troops were replaced with a human police force, which would eventually be used for attacks on enemies of the state.
For a period of four months, the 39,000 settlers were cut off from the Colonial Fleet and other civilian ships, which had jumped away. A resistance movement expanded, led by Colonel Saul Tigh, which took part in increasingly violent bombing attacks. While a plan for dealing with a Cylon occupation was agreed upon months prior, the lack of jump keys as well as Galactica and Pegasus running on skeleton crews delayed efforts to return. It was only upon the confiscation of these keys that the battle could begin.
