2004 Continuity

The Demeter-type was a type of escort vessel used by the Colonial Fleet. As a sister class to Orion-class vessels, it was presumably launched around the same time, over generations before the First Cylon War started. As its sister class, Demeter-type carried battlestar-grade weaponry and even more secondary batteries. While significantly smaller than Jupiter-class battlestar, these vessels were the largest heavy-hitters in the colonial support fleet.

Design[]

Armament[]

The main armament comprises 12 Dual KEW (kinetic energy weapons) batteries. While not the same caliber as Jupiter-class and closer in caliber to Valkyries main batteries, they still possessed a significant threat to smaller/medium Cylon vessels.[1] Secondary armament consists of 50 dual KEW batteries, which, while not possessing any kind of danger against basestars of larger Cylon support ships, could inflict significant damage to smaller Cylon escorts or incoming fighters.

Defenses[]

The class possessed two-layered defense, one active and one passive. Active one consisted of 32 Quad Point-Defence KEW batteries mainly located on the stern part of the ship, which were capable of producing impressive flak screens against incoming Cylon fighters.

As with its other Colonial contemporaries, thick armor protected the ship from any incoming missiles its flak screen did not destroy.

Fighter Complement[]

The Demeter-type is capable of supporting a small complement of Viper space superiority fighters, presumably up to a squadron, as well as being able to carry several Raptor multipurpose craft. It is unknown whether it can support these small craft for long-term deployments or only for a brief period for short missions. The class possessed three large hangar bays. One on each side and one at the front. Which, compared to its sister class, allowed for comfortable departures.

Computer Systems[]

Very little is known about the systems of the Demeter-type ships. It is presumed that, like other ships in the First Cylon War era, its computer systems were extremely simple and non-networked, which allowed it to resist Cylon infiltration better.

Crew[]

Its sister class, the Orion-class, only needed a crew 150 (excluding the flight complement) to operate. We can presume that these vessels built around shared hulls would require only marginally larger crew.

Propulsion[]

Ships of this class have two primary and two secondary engine assemblies. Unlike its sister class, these engines are mounted directly on the primary hull and not mounted by towers on its sides.

Known Ships[]

  • Fleet Escort Demeter 106
  • 3 Unknown Demeter-type Fleet Escort Ships as part of Battlestar Group 75
  • 1 Unknown Demeter-type Fleet Escort Ship as part of the Ghost Fleet
