Synopsis[]
The Colonial fleet is passing through the Empyrean Expanse despite being forbidden to do so by the Kiernu Chancellor. When the Kiernu defence force bars their way, Adama gives the order that none of the Viper squadrons do them any harm. The Vipers are not happy about this, but are fast enough to evade the Kiernu's laser fire. Adama agrees to speak to the Chancellor and reminds him that the Colonials need to cross only a narros space to get to the other side, and that since the Kiernu would not trade with them for extra Tylium, Adama has no choice but to go against the Kiernu's wishes. He also states that they will only pass through the Kiernu space for an hours time. The Chancellor replies that the Kiernu have rejected all visitors for millennia because they always bring trouble. Tigh reports that the Vipers have made it to the other side without any casualties. Later, Adama regrets having to have crossed the line while speaking to Tigh in his private quarters.
Starbuck, Boomer and Apollo answer a distress call and find several Cylon Raiders attacking a transport ship. They swiftly chase the Raiders away and seek contact with the unknown transport. Inside are Parrin and Grust of the Okaati, a race of feline featured humanoids. Parrin indicates that the danger is far from over, and the Vipers find themselves being attacked from behind by a fleet of sleek, black bladeships who identify themselves as the Comitat and order them to leave the Okaati to them, or die. Apollo reasons that since the Okaati were fleeing from the Cylons, they should be protected from these new arrivals as well. Parrin tells the Colonials that the bladeships are flown by remote control and that the Collonials can attack them without fear of harming anyone. When they attack, the Comitat tells them they have chosen wrongly. The Okaati transport enters a nebula and tells the Vipers to follow them. Inside they find the rest of the Okaati fleet, who, like the Collonials are on the run, but unlike them, every ship is fully armed.
Apollo and Starbuck realize they have encountered a friendly fleet not unlike their own, and that with these armored ships, they will be able to launch a counterstrike.
