Synopsis[]
"The Adama Gambit part two"[]
Doctor Madusa is amazed that Adama refuses to go to the bridge during a full out Cylon attack. He sees himself as unfit for command and has removed himself from it's responsibility. Madusa tells him the fleet needs him, but he replies it is in good hands, with Tigh, Athena and Apollo on duty. Apollo is still trying to protect the ailing ship Ariadna with Red Flight. Tigh and the remaining people aboard the Arianda are about to board the final shuttle when the Ariadna is hit by enemy fire. Tigh is all right, but the launch bay was hit and the shuttle has been destroyed. He tells Apollo and Red Flight to break away and join the main fleet defense. Relucantly, Apollo leaves, but he contacts Athena and tells her to send a shuttle to rescue the survivors aboard Ariadna. Athena replies that the Cylons are swarming the Galactica, and even if she could launch a shuttle, it may not be able to get to the Ariadna intact. Apollo demands to get a link to their father.
Tigh tells the remaining people aboard Ariadna decide that they cannot possibly get teh drive to work, but then decides that they will make their dying moments count for something. Madusa receives an urgent link from Apollo on her device in her office. Adama refuses to tell his son where he is, saying he will explain later. Apollo states that the fleet is going to be ripped apart by the Cylons. When Adama mentions Tigh, Apollo tells him that Tigh is stuck on the Ariadna and then repeats what the Colonel told him to tell Adama, that it has been his greatest honor to serve under Adama's command. Adama is shocked and speechless when he hears this.
On the bridge, Athena has lost contact with Starbuck. Omega tells her the fleet is underway, but won't be able to outrun the Cylons. Suddenly, Adama and Madusa arrive on the bridge. He is quickly briefed on the battel status by Athena, who explains that she is heading back to the Ariadna to be able to evacuate it. She now thinks it was foolish of her to do so, but Adama replies that a warship like the Galactica is meant to head into the fight. He orders the Galactica to stay on course and to prep the evacuation shuttles. He states that the Galactica has been acting as a carrier ship instead of a warship for too long. This time, they will engage the Basestar directly.
Starbuck and Breena of Blue Flight are amazed to see the Galactica joining their fight and attack the Basestar herself. Athena informs Apollo that a shuttle is about to be launched to rescue the people on the Ariadna. When Tigh is informed of this, he tells his people to aim the wreck of a ship they are on at the Basestar and sets the drive to overload. Athena reports that both the Galactica and the Basestar are taking hits, but in both cases their shiels are holding. Apollo reports from his Viper that Tigh and his crew are clear of the Ariadna in the shuttle, and that Tigh has prepared 'a little surprise' for the Basestar. Athena checks the ships readings and realizes that the Ariadna's drive is about to go off like a fusion bomb. When the Ariadna explodes, it takes out all of the Basestar's forward shields. The Galactica fires all it's weapons and destroys the Basestar.
Some time later, a bandaged Colonel Tigh is back on the Galactica's bridge. Adama tells him they couldn't have annihilated that Basestar without the Ariadna. Both of their risky gambits payed off. Apollo asks his father where he was when the fight started. Adama says he'll tell him someday, but Apollo demands and answer now. Adama then tells him he was 'preparing tactics'. Apollo reveals that people in the fleet are calling Adama's attack on the Basestar 'The Adama Gambit'. After a moment of mutual respect, Apollo leaves the bridge, leaving his father in command.
