"Dreams of the Thirteenth part three"[]

Starbuck is flabbergasted that Athena reports that the readings they are taking of the mysterious Artifact are in fact coming from inside the Galactica. Apollo is equially mystified, but his sister ensures him that she locked on to the correct target to scan. Apollo decides to keep this revelation from his father for the moment. As he speaks with Adama, the Commander insists on referring to the object not as 'the artifact', but as Earth, the Thirteenth Colony. Apollo brings up contact protocols they should develop to greet the Thirteenth Colony and insists that his father compose the message. Adama feels honored to do s and retreats to his cabin. Apollo suggests that Dr. Madusa joins Adama.

Athena has pinpointed the location the readings are coming from: Deck eight-eight, port side, habitation chamber 13. Apollo and Starbuck investigate, and note that the number 13 is quite significant. The chamber's occupant is Xam, Starbuck's technician. Apollo and Starbuck greet Xam and start to scan his cabin without further notice. Apollo asks Xam about the dreams and he replies how wonderful they are. Starbuck is surprised to see that the highest psionic readings off all are coming from Xam himself. He asks Xam since when he's beeen a delta-class telepath, which surprises the technician.

Later, Adama enters the Galactica's Life Scene Wards. Dr. Salik has examined Xam and has found that the engineer possessed latent psionic abilities, which were awakened when Xam was hit by a surge of energon from the Quantum Storm that had built up on Starbuck's Viper. Xam's psionics have been growing stronger ever since without him being aware of it. His mind created the artifact and has been infecting the minds of many other members of the fleet. Adama refuses to believe these facts and calls them all nonsense. He still insists that they have found Earth. Then the contact alarms go off. Colonel Tigh reports that the Cylon Basestar has found them and calls everyone to Battle Stations. Tigh intends to make a run for it, but Adama refuses to leave Earth behind. Apollo tries to change his father's mind, but the Commander reacts violently. Apollo insists that Xam tell Adama the truth, but Xam is unsure what is real and what isn't. Starbuck gently pleades with Xam to fix this mess, the same way he always managed to fix Starbuck's Viper. An emotional Xam complies.

Athena is shocked when the Artifact has suddenly disappeared. Tigh adds that the Cylons are still attacking, however. Xam, in the medical wing, can hear what is being said on the bridge, and decides to use his powers to do something worthwhile. His eyes light up and he shows the Cylons much more Colonial oposition than what they are actually facing, including numerous Battlestars. The Cylon forces start to retreat. Tigh orders the entire fleet to get out of there as fast as possible. Adama understands that Xam used his psionics to fool the Cylons into seeing something that scared them off. Salik reports that Xam's brain has shorted out as a result of Telepathic Overload. His body is still alive, but his mind isn't any more. Sadly, Starbuck tells Xam he saved them all, but who will be there to fix Starbuck's Viper from now on?
