Synopsis[]

"Dreams of the Thirteenth part two"[]

Xam expresses relief that Commander Adama is having the dreams of Earth as well and that he intends to keep pushing forwards. Starbuck, however, still has his doubts as he watches Xam work on his Viper. A Contact Alarm goes off, telling Starbuck to prep for launch and stand by. Sensors are picking up a large object, approximately the same size as their home planet, Caprica. Adama wonders aloud why the sensors did not show it before they were practically on top of it. Athena replies that long range navigation scans are very unreliable thanks to the storm zone. The object turns out to be a giant artificial structure, yet Adama insists that they have found Earth. In Adama's private quarters, Apllo, Athena and Tigh try to tell the Commander that the object is a giant artifact of unknown manufacture or origin and inquire why Adama thinks of it as a planet. Still, Adama remains certain that it is Earth, and that the dreams have led them there. He gives orders for the science division to start preparing a detailed timetable to analyze, examine and explore the structure and won't allow any further objections from the others.

Starbuck and Apollo visit Dr. Madusa in her office. She is very concerned, as all of the Colonials who have had the dreams of Earth think the same way about the object as Adama. She recommends to approach this object with caution. Apollo asks her if she has the power of authority in the event of psychological or medical emergencies, to which she replies that she does. Boomer and Hightail launch their Vipers for patrol duty. Some hours later, having found nothing of note, just as they intend to head home, they are attacked by two Cylon Raiders. Boomer shoots one Raider out of the sky, but Hightail is unable to shake the second one off her tail. With a daring move, Boomer manages to take out the second Raider and save his wingmate. Hightail wants to warn the fleet that Cylons have sent scouts into the storm, but Boomer's sensors reveal that an entire Basestar and countless Vipers are moving in on them.

On the bridge of the Galactica, Adama and Tigh discuss the Cylon's imminent arrival. Athena reports that the Cylon Force is about seven hours away. Adama is certain that the Cylon's long range scans will be as useless as theirs, and wants to take the time to learn more about eh artifact. Colonel Tigh objects, saying they need to put as much distance between the Cylons and themselves as possible. Apollo, Starbuck and Madusa enter the bridge and ask to communicate with Adama. Apollo agrees with Tigh and warns his father that Dr. Madusa is empored to remove any senior officer from his post pending evaluation. Athena is caught by surprise by these events. Madusa ensures the Commander that she will only invoke her powers if he refuses to cooperate. When Adama learns that Tigh agrees with Apollo on this, he offers a compromise: thirty centons of a full deep scan probe before they leave. That way, the data can be analyzed while they flee from the Cylons and they can return at a later time if the analysis yields results. Apolllo agrees. Tigh tells Athena to conduct a full sensor scan of the Artifact. She immediately receives a great deal of data, but also notices that the data returns are actually coming from the Galactica itself.

Notes[]

  • Artist Cezar Razek has takes over from Dietrich O. Smith starting with this issue. He draws Adama clean-shaven like in the original series, and he interprets the new characters that were created for this series very differently:
    • Xam now has a full head of hair and no beard, only a mustache.
    • Madusa has shoulder length hair instead of cropped.
    • Hightail is now a blond female instead of a male with a goatee.
  • Hightail and Athena use the Earth measurement of time 'hours' rather than the Colonial 'centar'.
  • Tigh uses the expression 'sitting ducks' rather than a Colonial equivilent.
