Battlestar Galactica #1, otherwise known as Classic Battlestar Galactica #1, is the first issue of Dynamite Entertainment's 2013 Classic Battlestar Galactica miniseries, released as part of the franchise's thirty-fifth anniversary celebration.

Plot[]

"MEMORIAL Part 1! 2013 marks the 35th anniversary of the original Battlestar Galactica TV series and to celebrate Dynamite is launching a brand new series, written by cosmic supremos, Dan Abnett & Andy Lanning (Legion, Nova, Guardians of the Galaxy)! Set in classic BSG continuity, this series celebrates 35 years of epic space opera when, following a surprise Cylon attack, Adama and the crew of the Galactica are forced to deploy Dr Zee's experimental temporal weapons with unexpected results that leave Apollo and Starbuck lost in time and space in an alternate reality with no Galactica and no way of returning home!"
—Official synopsis

Synopsis[]

Every night, Adama has nightmares concerning the deaths of his wife and son and the destruction of Caprica. The next day, Adama adresses the Colonial warriors on the anniversary of the fall of Caprica. His speech is broadcast to all the people in the fleet on viewscreens. Apollo wishes his brother Zac was still alive and blames himself, even though Starbuck and Adama tell him not to. Suddenly, an alarm goes off and the bridge reports an incoming Cylon attack. As he arrives on the bridge, Adama orders all Viper Squadrons to launch to give the fleet enough time to evade the Cylon sensors inside the nearby nebula. Appolo and Starbuck fly into battle, but Cylon Raiders crash themselves into the Galactica on a suicide run and cause major damage to engineering. Dr. Wilker appears on a viewscreen with an urgent request from his protege, Zee, who implores Adama touse the Temporal Weapons he has been developing. Adama reminds Zee that this kind of weapons are forbidden. However, after another explosing hits the bridge, he changes his mind.

Apollo and Starbuck are surprised to be ordered back to the Galactica. They are met by Wilker and Zee, who shows them two modified Vipers that have been fitted with prototypes of his Temporal Warper weapons. These Vipers also have a new black paint job with orange stripes. The two pilots launch and head for the attacking Basestars. Starbuck fires the warp synthesizer at a Cylon Raider and it disappears, having been temporally displaced. Another suicide run by the Cylons hits the Galactica, causing Zee's temporal battery to overload. Apollo and Starbuck's new weapons no longer function and the Galactica disappears in a blinding flash of light. Apollo and Starbuck are caught in the shockwave and find themselves completely alone. All of the other Colonial and Cylon vehicles are nowhere to be seen.

Notes[]

  • To show the passage of time, Adama sports a goatee, half-way between his clean-shaven look from the original series and his full beard as seen in Galactica 1980.
    • However, Boxey is also present at the memorial, and he does not appear to have aged at all.
  • The inclusion of Dr. Zee also indicates that some time has passed since the original series, but contradicts the ending of the Galactica 1980 episode The Return of Starbuck.
  • Starbuck refers to the Cylons as 'toasters', a habit from the re-imagined series rather than the classic version.
  • The swearword 'felgercarb' is missspelled as 'feldercarb'.
