Synopsis[]

"In the Beginning"[]

The Galactica, and the rag tag fleet it is leading, suddenly finds herself facing a giant black hole. So suddenly did it appear, that the Galactica Adama decides that his ship cannot break free. He opens communications to the fleet to inform them that their only chance is to fly directly into the black hole. As they enter the singularity, the ships of the fleet face heavy electrical currents that threaten to damage each one of them. One of the fleet's tankers explodes, rocking the Galactica and various other ships. Tigh notices that Adama is not responding and finds him lying unconscious on the bridge floor. Tigh informs the fleet that many ships have taken damage and that much of their comms and navigation instruments are failing.

Adama is being treated by Dr. Salek and Nurse Cassiopeia. Apollo checks in on his father before heading out to lead a scouting patrol. Sallik informs him that Adama has suffered a severe concussion, but should have been able to make a full recovery already. The Commander has been comatose for almost 20 centars now, and his readings indicate brain activity, meaning something is going on his head. Inded, Adama is in a dream-like state, where he finds himself getting out of bed in full uniform and being called by someone from beyond the door. When he walks through the door, he sees Baltar facing him on the planet they marooned him on. Baltar indicates that Adama stranded himself together with him. Adama denies feeling guilty about leaving Baltar, who replies that he has found hell for both of them. Suddenlty they are on the bridge of a Cylon Basestarr, with Baltar seated high upon his perch. Baltar states that the Cylons have no concept of hell or demons. When Adama tries to leave, Baltar shouts for him to run headlong into the doom that awaits all of them. Now Adama is on the bridge of the Galactica at the time of the Cylon attack on Caprica and the entire fleet.

During their patrol, Starbuck asks Apollo about the Commander. Sheba and Boomer also offer emotional support. The fleet is unsure of it's current location after passing through the black hole. Nav-computers are still down. They come upon a planet surrounded by a mass of wrecked ships and debris. Apollo decides to land and investigate. As soon as they have settled down, they are greeted by a large group of people made up of many different species who praise the Colonials for being their saviors. The people declare a time of celebration and decorate Starbuck with some kind of necklace. Sheba discovered a large crater in the ground that appears to be the site of a crash. Starbuck feels the urge to climb down into the seemingly bottomless pit to investigate.

Meanwhile, a Cylon Basestar commanded by Lucifer exits the black hole, having followed the Colonial Fleet. It has received minimal damage apart from scanner interference, making them unable to track the Colonials. Lucifer is annoyed that although several Colonial ships have not survived the trip, the Galactica is not among them. He orders scouts dispatched to find the Battlestar. The Cylon scouts soon find themselves being targeted by incomming fighters. To their surprise, the turn out to be fellow Cylons, albeit more advanced versions.
