Synopsis[]

On the bridge of the Galactica, Adama and Tigh instruct Apollo, Starbuck and Boomer on their mission. The Sagittarian representative of the Council of Twelve has relayed information about an ancient set of books on the planet Maytoria that may hold clues to the location of Earth. Maytoria is merely a satellite planet and was not counted among the twelve colonies. It was hit hardest in the first wave of Cylon attacks and is heavily occupied at present. Starbuck objects to going into such dangerous territory to look for books which may not even still be there, but Tigh shuts him up and explains that their Vipers have been equipped with a mostly untested stealth device.

Boxey wants insurance from his mother Serina that Apollo will come back. She tells him to be brave before mother and son say goodbye to Apollo and the two other pilots. Starbuck promises to make sure Apollo gets back in one piece. After launching, the three pilots discus their newly updated Vipers and express the feeling that the tech lab is more concerned about the return of the ships than their pilots. As they enter the planet's atmosphere, the engage the stealth modes to get passed several Cylon Basestars hovering above a large city. On the ground, there are a great amount of Cylon Centurions visible, and no sign of any humans.

Apollo warns Boomer that the Cylon Raiders patroling the city are unaware of their presence, and therefore won't alter their course to evade them. But it is too late, Boomer's Viper is hit by a passing Raider. The Viper loses it's stealth mode and crashes in the city. Starbuck asks Apollo if their mission is aborted, but Apollo refuses. The Cylons start to track the Viper's thermal signs and begin to fire at Starbuck. Apollo tries to make sure none of the other Raiders gets to Boomer's crashed ship, but then Starbuck is shot down as well. Apollo has no other choice but to head back to the Galactica for now.

On the ground, Starbuck spies on several Cylon Centurions who have recovered an unconscious and bleeding Boomer. Starbuck himself has a bandaged and bloody leg and fears that Boomer is dead. He finds some shelter where he manages to remove a chunck of metal from his leg, then closes the wound with a nother piece of shrapnel heated with his laser. He passes out from the pain, only to wake up later with several Cylons standing nearby. He manages to surprise one of them and shoot the other two through the head with a single laser blast. After finding another place to hide, Starbuck takes apart the first Cylon he overpowerd to use any provisions and weapons he can take from it.

Back on the Galactica, Tigh reports that the Cylon Command ships haven't moved, suggesting they assume that Starbuck and Boomer were part of the Sagittarian fleet. Adama decides to ge the entire fleet out of there, but Apollo wants to go back for the other two. Adama reminds his son that he saw both Vipers explode and they cannot risk another moment staying there. Athena is at her post, but visibly upset.

Back on Maytoria, Starbuck has dressed in pieces of Cylon body armor. He needs to find a communicator, and is heading back to the largest pyramids in the city that are all being watched over by Cylon Basestars. Among several crashed Vipers and land vehicles still litered with long-dead Colonial bodies, Starbuck finds a working com system. But on his way back to the savety of the ridge, a squad of Cylon Centurions spots him and attacks. Starbuck loses his weapon and the com cystem. He makes a run from it, but is surrounded by more Centurions. Suddenly there is an explosion that takes out many of the Cylons and knocks Starbuck to the ground. A group of human fighters led by a raven haired female has come to his rescue.
