Synopsis[]
"Forbidden Fruit!"[]
Athena, Cassiopeia and Saphire have been tied to 'X' shaped pieces of wood. The simian Dr. Enoch wants them to eat from the jungle planet's fruit and become like him. Suddenly Apollo jumps down from a tree and engages Enoch in a fight. Apollo has correctly guessed the simian's true identy, but Enoch does not want to be turned back into his weak and old human form and summons more simians with a blood-freezing cry. Suddenly a Viper flown by Boomer arrives on the scene and frightens the simians back. Enoch squeezes juice from an unripe fruit into Apollo's eyes so he too can escape.
Boomer arrives, carrying two laser pistols, one of which he gives to Apollo. Boomer learns the ape-man is Enoch and recounts how he and Jolly were the first to encounter him aboard the Galactica. Athena picks up the story about how she and the other Viper trainees were ambushed and shot down by a Viper, and how she, Cassiopeia and Saphire crashlanded on the jungle planet, where they were grabbed by the simians under Enoch's command and bound to wooden crosses. Apollo tells his side of the story and comes to the conclusion that the cause of Enoch's transformation is the fruit that he and Enoch had collected on their first visit to the jungle planet. When Boomer explains that the refrigerator housing the fruit in Enoch's lab was wrecked, Apollo orders Boomer and the women to return to the Galactica immediately to warn about the dangerous fruit. He himself will stay behind and try to reason with Enoch one more time.
Making use of his gymnastic training, Apollo swings from tree to tree until he locates Enoch, who's mind is becoming more ape-like as evident by his simplified speech. When Enoch attacks, Apollo defends himself with a stun blast. Enoch backs away and falls off a cliff.
Meanwhile, aboard the Galactica, Adama finds himself obsessing about the smell of the strange fruit in Enoch's lab and leaves the bridge to investigate it. Boomer and the three female pilots are unable to warn the Galactica about the bridge over their intercom. After docking they learn that Adama is heading for Enoch lab and hurry to get there as well. In the lab, Adama feels a strong urge to eat the foul-smelling fruit, but Athena arrives just in time to shoot it out of her father's hand. Boomer and the others then blast the rest of the fruit with their laser pistols, while Adama collapses from the strain.
Apollo climbs down to where the broken body of Enoch lies, only barely alive. Enoch's senses are returning, and he tells Apollo about how he first ate the fruit. Just before dying, Enoch regains his human form and tells Apollo that the Council of Twelve's idea to colonize the jungle planet must be abandoned. Apollo promises to make sure of this as he carries off the dead, human body of Enoch.
