—Official synopsis

Synopsis[]

During a game of Pyramid, Starbuck is arrested by two Council Security officers and charged with threatening Councilor Osiris while under the influence as well as the murder of Kandi Trieste in the Erin Dream's casino. He is put in a cel on the Aerian Administration Hub, where he tells a visiting Apollo that he was lucky to have left McKintosh's pendant aboard his Viper. Adama visits Osiris in his office to try to get Starbuck transferred to a cel on the Galactica, but Osiris refuses. Apollo is aproached by Baltar, who offers to be of service. He hints that Osiris is in league with the Cylons, and offers the use of the agro container Penance, which has enough room to carry a couple of Vipers.

The Penance docks at the Aerian Adminstration Hub just as two large guards take Starbuck from his cel to be relocated to "somewhere dark and off the map". Starbuck is able to knock out both guards, who have had very little hand to hand training before Apollo arrives. They make a run for Baltar's ship, but when more guards arrive, board their respective Vipers and blast through the Penance's hull. During a meeting of the Quorum of Twelve, Osiris accuses Adama and Baltar of having instigated Starbuck's escape. Both deny involvement, but President Adar decides to remove Adama from his position and instructs Councilor Romo to escort Adama outside. Adama asks Baltar why he became involved, and Baltar explains that he will get either Osiris' place on the Quorum or Adama's, depending on which one of them comes out on top. Adama asks Athena to check out the Erin Dream's security footage while Osiris orders his daughter Diana to follow Athena.

Apollo and Starbuck have found McKintosh's ship in deep space, but the man himself has been shot dead by Cylons. The ship does an automatic scan of the new arrivals, which unlocks a key hidden into the pendant around Starbuck's neck. McKintosh appears in a holographic message and confesses that he used to work for Osiris and was forced to witness the attack on Umbra. A hidden panel slides open to reveal another copy of the recorded evidence. Apollo takes the disc, saying he can upload it's contents to the Galactica from his Viper. As they leave, their Vipers are attacked by Cylon Raiders and Starbuck reports a Basestar is closing in on them as well. But Jolly and Zac join the fight in their own Vipers and together they defeat the Cylon attackers.

Aboard the Aerian Hub, Athena has managed to locate security footage of Diana murdering Kandi. But Diana appears and quickly deletes the footage. Athena bests Diana in unarmed combat, but is hit by a stun blast from a Cylon Centurion. Diana orders the Cylon to take Athena to Ground Zero. Adama, now in posession of McKintosh's evidence, confronts Osiris in his office. Osiris turns the tables by showing the captive Athena on a viewscreen and threatening her life. Apollo and Starbuck return to the Galactica, where they are reunited with Jolly, Zac and Boomer, who has released himself from the medical bay. Adama, Tigh and Baltar also arrive in the hangar deck and inform the warriors about Athena's capture. Baltar has discovered that she is being held in an old Tylium mine on the ice moon Thrace. Adama intends to mount a rescue mission personally and everyone else present agrees to join him.

Notes[]

  • Starbuck is accused of murdering Kandi Trieste in the Eren Dream's casino. However, in the previous issue, Kandi worked at the Astral Utopia casino on Caprica while the Erin Dream was the name of a Gambling Barge.
  • In the opening pages, when Starbuck is gambling and being arrested, McKintosh's pendant is visible hanging around his neck. But in jail he tells Apollo he left the pendant in his Viper, even though it is again visible two panels later on the same page.
  • One of the muscular guards that accompany Starbuck on the Agro Container Penance is called Tycho. The same name was used for a scruffy looking gambler in the first issue.
  • Councilor Romo is named and modelled after the character Romo Lampkin from the re-imaginged series.
  • The backgrounds of the Viper bay on battlestar Galactica are those of the hangar deck from the Re-imagined Series.
  • The Warrior uniforms feature shoulder patches on both shoulders, but it should only appear on the right shoulder on Warrior uniforms.
  • The Vipers depicted are visually more in line with the Re-imagined Series Mark II Viper than the Original Series counterpart.
