Plot[]
The comic begins two years before the Fall of the Twelve Colonies as Commander Adama and Colonel Tigh arrive at Colonial Fleet Headquarters on Picon. They meet with Captain Kelly and are introduced to the Battlestar Galactica. Given orders by Admiral Nagala, Adama prepares to take Galactica out of the system. In CIC Kelly express confusion, as a planet they were ordered to is not in their database. This, he learns, is because it is in neutral space. Tigh is also unaware of the mission, and inquires into it. An expeditionary ship has gone missing outside of Colonial space, and Galactica has been assigned to investigate. Adama served as Admiral Julian D'imarco's XO years earlier on Columbia, and has a personal interest in seeing the mission through.
Twenty-seven hours later, the ship passes into neutral space, marked by buoys. Adama and Tigh discuss their private lives. Adama mentions having restless nights in the first days separated from Anne. Tigh meanwhile rests perfectly fine without Ellen. Adama gets a phone call reporting problems locating a transponder signal on the planet, and orders a Raptor investigation with himself in the team.
Raptor 339 takes off from Galactica with Major Cottle onboard. The Raptor flies through a windstorm which reduces visibility. An object appears on DRADIS, which the crew suspect too late to be heat-seeking missiles. The Raptor takes a hit and crashes, dropping out of wireless contact with Galactica. The crew set out for the wrecked ship and find what appear to be bonfires, giving hope of survivors. Approaching they discover Admiral D'imarco among the survivors. Julian warns the team that the planet is dangerous, as a force of Centurions surround the craft.
