Synopsis[]
Athena calls for Red Alert as a group of jetpacked Cylons have boarded the Galactica's science deck. Adama orders emergency escape protocol Theon-Acula and all Vipers to launch. Tigh warns him that engaging their drives at full speed could be dangerous because of the hull breach. Apollo reports that he, Starbuck and Wilker are sealed off in the science deck and the Cylons are trying to get in. Adama tells his son tat D-Com warriors are on the way, but Appolo replies that the door is going to give way in thirty microns. Starbuck suggests that since the door is going to blow anyway, they might as well wear environment masks and use a pocket grenade against the Cylons as soon as they get through. Apollo and Starbuck attach themselves to their grappling gear, and after the door blows and the grenade clears them a path, they use the grappling lines to vault past the Cylons and out towards the hole they used to board the Galactica. Wearing the envirnment masks, they fire their pistols at the silver Centurions and start to back away from the hole in the wall. But Apollo notices that one of the Cylons is arming an explosive. Using the force of gravity, he maneuvres himself towards the armed Cylon and kicks him out of the ship before it explodes.
Tigh notices the explosion from the bridge. Starbuck is almost out of air and in danger of being sucked out of the breached hull. But Sheba and the rest of the D-Com warriors arrive just in time to grab Starbuck and evacuate him, Apollo and Wilker to sickbay. Greenbean points Sheba to one last remaining Cylon Centurion with only one arm left. Shortly, this Centurion has been chained to a chair and has been completely cut of from the Cylon network. It is being questioned by Adama and Tigh but does not respond at all. In the Cylon mainframe city of Tessida, Viceroy Abbadon reports to Imperious Leader Lord Barkol, who praises the way Abbadon handled the infidel Basestar. Barkol then orders him to continue on this path and to make sure that the Colonials never discover what was in that destroyed Basestar.
When Starbucks wakes in sickbay, he calls Cassiopeia 'Aurora' by mistake. Adama is also watching over Starbuck and Apollo in sickbay and notes that they have appeared to cheat death twice in one day. They have had their blood replaced and tissues healed, and Adama wants them to join him in Dr. Wilker's new lab. By harvesting a molecule of the mysterious oranism from Apollo's glove, Wilker has been able to identify it as a Nano-Cybrid, a combination of genetic engineering and nanotechnology. It's purpose is to turn Cylons into biological creatures. Adama reminds him that the Cylons rejected their biological originals thousands of Yahrens ago. Wilker remains certain that the Nano-Cybrids feed on Cylon energy in a way that reorganizes all available ambient matter into organic, lving tissue based on the reptilian matrix of the original Cylon species.
Meanwhile, the captured Centurion has awoken and tells the group of Colonial warriors that are pointing their weapons at him not to come any closers, as it has detected a toxic substance. Enjoying the Cylon's show of fear, Starbuck throws the contents of a small vial containing a sample of Nano-Cybrid at it. The substance immediately begins to tear the Centurion apart, then uses the body parts as a base for it's own growing liquid form. The Colonials open fire at the creature, but Jolly is hit by the black goo. Starbuck manages to free Jolly by separating the strand that was holding him. A few Centons later, Starbuck reports to Adama and Wilker that there is not much left of the prisoner, or the detention chamber for that matter. Adama tells him to salvage what he can and report back to him. Apollo asks if Wilker could replicate and weaponze the Nano-Cybrid. Wilker replies that the organism is very unstable but that he may be able to make it into a weapon. Adama asks to speak to his son in private. Apollo thinks the Nano-Cybrid could be a weapon of mass destruction that targets Cylons selectively and calls it a gift from the gods. They could use it to destroy the Cylon planet and clear a path to the Lost Tribe. Adama however, is uncertain about bringing about an apocalypse, even against the Cylons. Apollo argues that the Cylons have already done the same to them, including his own mother and brother. Apollo feels the Cylons deserve to die, but Adama doesn't want to be as heartless as the Cylons have been to them.
In Tessida on the Cylon planet, Viceroy Abbadon receives a transmission from the human fleet. Commander Adama claims to bring them a message of peace. Abbadon orders a flight of Raiders to seek out the origin of the transmission and will only reply to Adama just before the Raiders blow him out of the stars. When they converse, both parties expect the other to offer their surrender. Adama reveals he is in possession of vast amounts of a Cylon Nano-Cybrid that could destroy them all. Abbadon reveals that the Nano-Cybrid was not created by the Cylons, but by the infidel. When Adama says he's sorry to hear there is dissent in the Cylon ranks, the Viceroy replies that there is no such thing, only the mechanical perfection of the Cylon order. The Cylons have found the origin of the transmisson: a single Colonial shuttle. Adama tells Abbadon to cease all hostilities and allow the Galactica safe passage through their system. The Centurions have boarded the shuttle, only to find it empty. Adama's image is being gransmitted by hologram. Abbadon refuses to cooperate with the Colonials in any way. Adama cuts the connection and tells Wilker to step up production of a weapon for a planet-scale bombinb raid. He intends to give the Cylons the apocalypse they asked for.
