Synopsis[]
While on Viper patrol. Starbuck and Apollo scan hundreds of Cylon Raiders in the vicinity. To their surprise, the Raiders are attacking a Cylon Basestar. The two pilots observe the destruction of the Basestar with their Vipers magnetically locked to a small asteroid. Afterwards, Apollo insists on taking a closer look at part of the wreck that crashed into a nearby planet, but Starbuck feels it is too dangerous. Meanwhile, the Galactica is leading the fleet towards the mysterious Canopus Wormhole that could either hold the key to their survival or destroy them. Bojay and Wilker have intercepted a transmission while making a stealth approach to the wormhole. They made a recording of the transmission before jamming it so that no one else could find it. Adama tells them to show it to Dr. Wilker, who is astounded when it appears to be footage of the lost colony. Although the Colonials do not recognize the images, it is footage of the dedication of the New York World Fair of 1939 by Franklin D. Roosevelt. Wilker calls it proof that the lost colony does indeed exist, possibly just beyond the wormhole. Adama tells him this possibility only makes their situation more difficult, and that there is something WIlker needs to see.
Apollo and Starbuck investigate a rain swept planet where the remains of the Basestar has crashed. Inside the wrecked ship, they find many Cylon Centurions in pieces. They are covered in an unidentified goo. Colonel Tigh has temporarily moved the Galactica out of the Nebula, not enough to risk detection. Adama tells Wilker to look into the wormhole, where a planet is visible. Adama and Tigh tell Wilker that the planet is inhabited by Cylons. Stealth probes have revealed that the entire planet is a Cylon mainframe tasked with protecting their empire's data and it is in the way of their passage trough the wormhole.
The ruler of the Cylon planet, Regent Abbadon is informed by two golden Centurions that the infidel Basestar has been destroyed and that it crashed into the oceans of Burania. The Regent accuses both Commanders of not having finished their work and orders them to return to the Burania with a flight of bombers to destroy all that remains of the Basestar. He also tells them to leave behind a maximum self-sufficiency stealth team to track and intercept anyone who should happen upon that world.
Appolo has concluded that the mysterious substance appears on all the destroyed Cylons. It appears to be biological. Starbuck suggests to hack into one of the Basestar's computers and download every last bit of tactical data from it. Then the substance appears to come alive. A large liquid monster with various Cylon body parts stuck into it suddenly rises in front of Starbuck and Apollo. They fire their laser pistols at it and escape the way they came in: by rappelling line. On the hull of the Basestar, they see Cylon Raiders approaching. The Raiders fire at the Colonial Warriors, who dive into the water surrounding the wrecked ship. The Raiders leave, and the two pilots are able to climb back to their Vipers over the rocky terrain.
Some time later, Apollo and Starbuck have returned to the fleet and are being questioned by Wilker. Apollo mentions how the component parts of the dead Cylons merged into a single living organism, and hands over a sample of the mysterious goo in a jar. Then the alarm goes off. Apollo reaches the nearest wall communicator to ask what is going on. From the bridge, Adama informs him there has been a hull breach and they appear to have been boarded by silver Cylon Centurions wearing jetpacks.
