2004 Continuity

Columbia was a Battlestar in the Colonial Fleet. One of the most modern at the time of the Fall of the Twelve Colonies, it was named after Columbia, one of the original twelve which was destroyed at the end of the Cylon War during the Operation Raptor Talon.

History[]

Columbia was in service at least a decade before the Fall of the Twelve Colonies and may have been built during the 40-0 BCH military expansion. William Adama, then Colonel, served on Columbia for four years before being reassigned to Valkyrie.[1] Columbia was used as a testbed for the Viper Mark VII while still in its experimental stages. For some five years, its deck chief was Galen Tyrol, who had transferred over from Pegasus. Following a fatal accident in which a Viper's engine prematurely ignited during pre-launch checks, Tyrol was reassigned to the aging Galactica.[2]

When the Cylons launched a surprise attack at least two years later, Columbia was ordered to join Admiral Nagala's task force, consisting of Atlantia, Triton and Solaria, among others. All ships suffered hardware failures when the Cylons used a backdoor program to shut down their Command Navigation Programs. They were destroyed over Virgon without putting up a fight.[3]
