Type-A Basestar[1] was a type of warship utilized by the Cylons in the 1st Cylon War. Visually, the basestar appeared as center-joined two flattened cones giving it a distinctive saucer-like appearance.[2] Similar to the modern Type-D, the primary armament was multiple missile launchers dotted alongside the circular hull. Hangar bays were located in the central hull at the end of one of the 10 trenches.
History[]
While the origins of the first basestars are unknown, it is reasonable to assume they were part of the Caprican Navy, and the Navies that Caprica sold its Cylon creations in the 6 years preceding the Cylon War and Articles of Colonization. Following the start of the War, these ships would participate in some of the most prominent battles against the Colonial Fleet and Planetary Defense Fleets, including the Siege of Tauron and Operation Raptor Talon. Following the end of the war, these vessels were decommissioned from the Cylon Navy and replaced by the modern Type-D seen during the 2nd Cylon War, also known as the Cylon Holocaust.
