Count Baltar was a human politician who was instrumental in the ending of the Thousand Yahren War through a decisive victory for the Cylon Alliance.
Biography[]
Count Baltar is known to have sat on the Council of the Twelve, the governing body of the Twelve Colonies of Man. Count Baltar himself was under the manipulation of the Imperious Leader, the Cylon in command of the Alliance. Count Baltar agreed to assist the Alliance in defeating the Colonials and ending the long drawn-out war in exchange for sparing Baltar's colony so he could rule it.[1] How long he worked for the Cylons is uncertain, but he had the time and influence to chart Carillon and cover up its habitability and value for tylium exploitation.[1]
Baltar was successful in fooling most of the Council, along with President Adar, into believing that he had brokered a peace treaty with the Cylons, which needed only to be signed at a rendezvous near Cimtar to be ratified. The entire remaining fleet of Battlestars assembled for this rendezvous, whereupon they were swarmed by thousands of Raiders before they could launch squadrons to defend themselves. Baltar escaped from Atlantia ahead of a Raider suicide run which destroyed it.[1] Within hours, only Galactica remained, having abandoned the fleet to return to the Colonies, which had already been destroyed during the diversion.
Following Baltar's arrival in the Imperious Leader's court, their pact was reneged on and his execution ordered.[1] Also broken was the agreement to spare his colony, thus dooming his family.[2] When the Imperious Leader was killed in the Battle of Carillon, his successor spared his life and provided Baltar with a Basestar and an adjutant, Lucifer, with orders to find and neutralise Galactica to end humanity as a threat.[2]
