Athena Academy was a prestigious high school based on the outskirts of Caprica City. It was named after the goddess Athena, one of the Lords of Kobol.
History[]
The school was founded around 1847 - initially as an all-girls school - with a class size of merely six. In the following 95 years, the school expanded in no small thanks to accolades by the Caprican Minister of Education, and by the start of 1942 was recognised as one of the most prestigious high schools of the Helios Alpha system, with admissions being taken from across the Cyrannus Star System due to its offering of modern education alongside the classics.
In the 1940s, Athena Academy was run by Sister Clarice Willow, a Monotheist and de facto leader of all STO units on Caprica. With the church on Gemenon opting for nonviolent methods of conversion, Sister Willow used her influence to convert a number of students and, through them, others. By the start of 1942 she had welcomed in Zoe Graystone, Ben Stark, Lacy Rand, Hippolyta, Keon, and Pann. With several students joining the rebellious cell led by Barnabas Greeley, Stark killed himself and Graystone in an unsanctioned suicide bombing. This brought about a GDD investigation into the school which, thanks to an agent in the organisation, failed to find any bombs. In the weeks that followed, Hippolyta, Keon and Pann were murdered on Sister Willow's orders.
