(Battlestar Galactica 2004, Caprica and Blood & Chrome)
Lieutenant Alex "Crashdown" Quartararo was an officer in the Colonial Fleet who was one of the few officers in the refugee fleet not from Galactica or Pegasus, and was killed by friendly fire on Kobol.
Biography[]
During the 1990s, Quartarero served on board Triton and was trained with Raptors. During the Fall of the Twelve Colonies, Triton was ordered to Virgon to confront the Cylon fleet there, but was disabled and destroyed.[1] He would escape this destruction, and found himself at Ragnar, either by being picked-up during an SAR operation or responding to rendezvous orders given by Commander William Adama of Galactica.[1] Following the Battle of Ragnar Anchorage, Quartararo was officially transferred to Galactica and assigned to Lieutenant Sharon "Boomer" Valerii's Raptor as her Electronic Countermeasures Officer.[2]
Quartararo's relationship with his fellow pilots started off with a level of tension. His ECO position filled in the shoes of the missing Lieutenant Karl "Helo" Agathon, who Valerii left behind on Caprica. He also took part in revealing classified information on the existence of Humanoid Cylons, having heard it from one of the Marines involved in the removal of Aaron Doral.[2][1][3] He did however develop
In the week after the exodus, Galactica lost much of its water reserves in a bombing. All Raptors were crewed and sent out to nearby systems in search of replacement water supplies to recover for the fleet, with Quartarero and Valerii's Raptor being the only Raptor to find water, it being in a pure, frozen state.[3] The following month the team would discover a large deposit of tylium ore in an asteroid while on a similar mission to end a shortage. A major operation took place to recover this ore by destroying a Cylon mining rig, with the Raptor one of three strategically placed to warn both Galactica and a diversionary flotilla of Raider movements.[4]
Kobol mission[]
During another reconnaissance patrol, Quartararo and Valerii discovered a large planet with an Oxygen-Nitrogen atmosphere. A low pass discovered ruins of a human city abandoned some two millennia prior, indicating the planet to be Kobol. Soon after their return to Galactica, Valerii shot herself in the face in a failed suicide attempt. Consequently, Quartararo was partnered with Lieutenant Cohen "Karma" Baker in transporting a survey team to the surface. The Raptor mission went awry when they were ambushed by Raiders, taking out one Raptor in a collision. The second raptor was shot at through the canopy, killing Cartman and sending it crashing onto the planet's surface where the City of the Gods once stood.[5] While waiting for a rescue party to arrive, Quartararo took command of the survivors, consisting of Vice President Dr. Gaius Baltar, Chief Galen Tyrol, Specialist Cally Henderson, Specialist Diana Seelix, Specialist Tarn and Specialist D. Socinus.[5][6] The survivors other than Quartararo had only limited training for this kind of situation, with Baltar having none at all, and Quartararo himself was distressed and thinking unclearly. Heading into the mountains to evade detection by potential Cylon search parties, the group was harassed by Centurions, leading to the deaths of Tarn and then Socinus. When it was discovered, the Centurions were constructing an anti-air battery, Quartararo had the team observe the Centurions guarding it and a DRADIS dish to prepare for an attack, realising that with an anti-air presence any SAR Raptor would be shot down. When the Centurions changed their patrols so all five were guarding the battery as the Raptors entered atmosphere, Quartararo ordered an ambush despite overwhelming odds. The ambush was aborted when Henderson refused to run to their next position. Quartararo then raised his sidearm to her, threatening to shoot her for insubordination, leading to stand-off with the others. Ultimately, he was shot by Baltar, and his body fell against a tree. This act of mutiny and murder was covered-up by the survivors after their rescue, and the official story became that he died leading a heroic charge.[7]
