Alex "Boxey" Boxman was a refugee of the Fall of the Twelve Colonies. He was the son of an officer in the Colonial Fleet who died immediately before the attacks.
Biography[]
Boxman was near Delphi when the Cylon nuclear bombardment of Caprica began. With his mother and many others, he fled into the fields outside the city. When the refugee convoy spotted a Raptor landing nearby, they flocked to it and made negotiations for rescue, of which only the children and a handful of adults were chosen.[1][2]
For the next few weeks, Boxman lived alone on board Galactica where he quickly made friends with the crew. He quickly deduced Lieutenant Sharon "Boomer" Valerii was in a relationship with Chief Galen Tyrol and was willing to keep people away while the two were kissing.[3] On one day he stole a towel from Valerii's duffel bag which was covered in powder residue from G-4 explosives, then walked around with the towel across the ship to pick up a bottle of ambrosia from engineering to share with the pilots. This was overlooked by the crew at the time, and Boxman was unqualified to link the powder to the subsequent sabotage of Galactica's reserve water tanks.[3]
Further notes[]
- Boxey was incorporated into the Miniseries to reference a similar mascot character in the 1978 series. Due to the darker and militaristic plot lines, however, it was difficult to write for him and he was quickly dropped after several Season 1 scripts were finished.
