2004 Continuity

The Alert-type escort ship was a type of purpose-built warship utilized by the Colonial Fleet during the First Cylon War. Sister class of the Hornet-type, these once mighty Colonial ships are not delegated to serve as escorts to the newly built battlestars of Jupiter-class. By the tenth year of the war, at least one vessel of this class was retrofitted as a hospital ship.[2]

Flight I[3][]

Armament and Defenses[]

Relatively lightly armed, Alert-type carries 4 Primary Dual KEW (kinetic energy weapons) of the same caliber as carried by Orion and Demeter. However, the class lacks main batteries, so it makes up for its defensive potential. Thirty-two dual-purpose double KEW batteries are scattered around the hull, and its flight pod provides excellent screening coverage for the ship and its designated fleet.

Like most other colonial vessels, the ship's last line of protection is its thick armor. Layers upon layers of tylium-based alloys protect the ship from enemy missiles that get its protective flak.

Fighter Complement[]

Unlike many of its contemporaries, the Alert-type does not carry any viper launch tube[4]. While this does not mean the ship cannot launch support fighters, it cannot rapidly deploy alert fighters. The hangar pod is large enough to accommodate numerous raptors and multiple Kimba Huta-type transports.

Computer Systems[]

As one of the original Colonial Fleet designs, designed before the war, it's most likely that these ships were designed with complex computer systems in mind. Considering we've seen these vessels serve deep into the war, the computer systems must have been replaced and hardened against Cylon infiltration.

Crew[]

While the crew complement is unknown, it was originally only a couple dozen officers and enlisted personnel. With most of its automation now gone, however, the complement was likely significantly increased to account for reduced computer systems.

Flight II[3][]

At some point during the class's lifetime, the class underwent a redesign, which allowed it to include an additional flight pod with corresponding armament. While still no Viper launch tubes are present, this update significantly increased the class carrying capacity and its available firepower.

Known Ships[]

  • Hospital Ship Alert
  • 2 Unknown Alert-type Flight II taking part in Ghost Fleet Offensive
