Adriatic was a Defender-class[4] ship that escaped the Fall of the Twelve Colonies with The Fleet. It was destroyed two years after the fall, several weeks following the exodus from New Caprica.
History[]
The Adriatic was a decommissioned warship utilized by the Colonial Fleet during the First Cylon War. At some point during its 50-year history, the ship was decommissioned and transferred to an unknown civilian entity, which operated it during the interwar period up to the Fall of the Twelve Colonies in 0 BCH. During the initial attack, the Adriatic, like other civilian ships, was ordered to exit the shipping lanes and wait for further orders. It later joined the Roslin-led refugee fleet and rendezvoused with Galactica at Ragnar Anchorage.[5]
During the rebellion in the Fleet, Adriatic's crew supported President Laura Roslin and jumped to Kobol. The ship was one of the few armed with ship-to-ship missiles and provided defense for the splinter group. It was almost ordered to shoot down Kara Thrace's Heavy Raider.[6] During the food shortage in the fleet, the ships had to travel through a dense star cluster to get to Algae planet, the only available food source nearby. Adriatic's personnel were transferred to Galactica, and a skeleton crew piloted Adriatic alongside a Raptor crewed by Lieutenant Brendan "Hot Dog" Costanza. The two vessels were separated from each other, and Adriatic was ultimately destroyed.[1]
Behind the Scenes[]
- Many fans considered the Defender-class warship briefly seen in Exodus, Part Ⅱ to be the Adriatic. This was later confirmed by the Battlestar Galactica Deadlock video game.
- Comparing all known ships in the Roslins Separatist Fleet with known ship types, the Adriatic is likely either Defender or Astral Queen-type
